Behavioral health and hospital facility managers charged with eliminating ligature and self-harm risks for their patients have a new solution for their entryways. SELECT is thrilled to announce that the New York State Office of Mental Health (NYS-OMH) Patient Safety Standards Guidelines and the Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI) Behavioral Health Design Guide have recently accepted the SELECT SL57 aluminum full surface geared continuous hinge topped with the new, patented metal TIPIT LM. This ligature-resistant combination may be used when renovating or building new facilities to meet The Joint Commission's accreditation and certification standards.
The SELECT SL57 is the only full surface geared continuous hinge to receive NYS-OMH's highly-coveted acceptance seal. The NYS-OMH recommends the SL57 for all inswinging and outswinging doors in inpatient units. It specifies that the SL57 must be used with a SELECT metal TIPIT to eliminate the ligature point at the top of the hinge
The new TIPIT LM is made of durable aluminum and securely fastens to the door frame header with tamper-resistant Torx® security screws. The angle cut TIPIT LM leaves no exposed edges and can top most SELECT or other brands of geared continuous hinges. It is exclusively available through SELECT distributors.
If you need to reduce ligature and safety risks in a new or existing entryway, don't wait for a Joint Commission inspection to go into fast-compliance action mode. Consider installing the SL57 with the new TIPIT LM. Paired together, they are the easiest way to make facilities safer for decades.
